MOORE, SLOWE, LITTEN WIN SCHNITZ SUMMER SIZZLER TITLES
ROCKINGHAM – South Carolina's Chris Moore upset the favorites at the 8th Annual Schnitz Racing Summer Sizzler in the Outlaw Pro Street class Sunday at Rockingham Dragway, but there was no roadblock to Mike Slowe of Bensalem, Pa., who continued his march toward a second consecutive MIRock
Superbike Series championship in the 60-Inch Sport Bike class.

Moore saved his best for last in Outlaw Pro, using a 7.228 second, 189.71 mile per hour quarter mile to get past Tony Girardi of Hollywood, Fla., in an all-Suzuki final.  The Greer, S.C., rider earlier eliminated the primary female threat, former NHRA Pro Stock rider Angie McBride of Lewisville, in a much closer race than the final.

As for Slowe, his Suzuki was seriously challenged only in a final round showdown with Spring Open champion John Flood of Oakland, N.Y.

After qualifying No. 1 with a spectacular 7.985 second, 183.77 mph effort, thereby becoming the first Sport Bike rider to break 8.00 seconds, he beat fellow Pennsylvanians Anthony Navarro of Royersford and No. 2 qualifier Steve Knecum of Edgewater to earn a final round berth opposite Flood in a battle of Suzuki Hayabusas.

Out first, Slowe never looked back, reversing the order of finish from the spring, 8.020 at 182.13 mph to Flood's 8.071 and 182.33 mph.

Other winners included Lewisburg, N.C., veteran Ehren Litten in the Heavyweights class; Mark Eckles of Statesville, N.C., in the Honda-Suzuki of Sanford 5.60 Pro Mod class; and Mac McAdams of Edgewater, Md., in the FBR Shop Quick 8.

Shayne Proctor was the weekend's only double winner.  The Indian Head, Md., rider won the Fish's Custom's Street E.T. title on both Saturday and Sunday, beating factory Kawasaki rider Rickey Gadson of Sicklerville, N.J., in the Saturday final.

Alan Fields of Climax, N.C., and Richard Barnhart of Greenville, S.C., split the Nitrous Express Pro E.T. titles.

The MIRock Superbike Series, presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires, is a joint venture of Rockingham Dragway and Maryland International Raceway.  Four races at each track determine season champions in four categories.  The next Rockingham race will be A&J Performance Autumn Bike Nationals, Sept. 11-12.
