ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Jeremey Teasley’s bid to make Mickey
Thompson Tires MIRock Superbike Series history moves this week to Rockingham
Dragway where some of the country’s top two-wheel talent will assemble for
the14th running of the Schnitz Summer Sizzler.
With the HTP Performance Real Street title all but locked up, Teasley can
turn his attention this week to cutting into the 43-point margin by which he
currently trails former series champion and national record-holder Rodney
Williford of Rougemont in the featured Orient Express Pro Street division.
Teasley’s green Kawasakis have dominated the MIRock winners’ circles this
summer in races at both Rockingham and Maryland International Raceway,
putting the Orient, Ohio rider in position to become the first ever to win
championships in the top two MIRock categories in a single season.
The three-day Sizzler will begin Friday with a closed test session at 10
a.m. followed by open testing beginning at 6 p.m. Also on the Friday docket
will be a Gamblers Race contested on The Rock’s eighth-mile course using a
5.40 second base. The whole of the $50 entry fee will be paid out to the
most successful riders.
Competition intensifies on Saturday with professional qualifying at 2 p.m.,
4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. along with racing in Nitrous Express Pro ET,
Schnitz Racing Street ET and House of Speed Crazy 8s. FBR Shop Quick 32
eliminations begin the Sunday program at 9 a.m. Pro eliminations are
scheduled to start at 12 noon Sunday.
Adult admission to the Schnitz Summer Sizzler is $20 per day although two
and three day passes are available at a discounted rate. Children 6-12 are
$5 per day when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
Despite his recent dominance, which included wins in both classes at the
June 6 Fast by Gast Summer Showdown at MIR, Rockingham will not be a
walkover for the talented Teasley.
Those standing between him and a third straight Pro Street victory include
reigning champion Vincent Demito of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., Williford, former
champion Mike Slowe of Croydon, Pa., and Winston-Salem’s Dimey Eddinger.
In Real Street, where he enjoys a 260-point lead over second place Rickey
Gadson of Hammonton, N.J., Teasley likely will be challenged by the man who
upset him to win the Fast by Gast Bike Fest on July 18 – former NHRA Pro
Stock Motorcycle pro Chip Ellis of Brownsburg, Ind.
Also poised to challenge is veteran Ryan Schnitz of Decatur, Ind., Gadson
and Darion Payne of Ft. Washington, Md., presently third in points.
In addition, Rockingham again will renew its popular Afterdark Underground
program on both Saturday and Sunday nights following the completion of
MIRock competition and featuring “grudge race madness.” A $100 buy-in covers
all timed runs on both Saturday and Sunday.
