DEMITO, NORRIS
CLAIM TITLES at THE ROCK SCHNITZ SUMMER SIZZLER

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Rodney Williford’s foul start in the Pro Sport Bike
semifinals opened the door for No. 2 qualifier Vincent Demito of
Collegeville, Pa., Sunday, who went on to win the Schnitz Summer Sizzler
Rockingham Dragway.
Demito
shared the winners’ circle with Dave Norris of Bryans Road, Md., who won in
Outlaw Pro Street, and Kenny Lewis of Columbia, who claimed the 5.60 Pro
Comp title.
Boo Brown
of Potomac Falls, Md., doubled-up in the ET classes, winning Street ET on
Saturday and Pro ET on Sunday and claiming a $500 bonus for Nitrous Express
for winning the most racing rounds over the two days (11). Robin Procopio
of Wake Forest won the FBR Shop Quick 32 competition for the Pro ET bikes
over Jason Herron, Lexington, S.C.
Until his
foul start against former champ Anthony Navarro of Royersford, Pa.,
Williford appeared unbeatable particularly after he lowered the Pro Sport
Bike national recoord to 7.690 seconds during qualifying. It was his best
outing since being forced out of the all-conquering turbo bike in which set
the Outlaw Pro record (6.918 seconds) last year.
Navarro,
who was the beneficiary of Williford’s foul start, had Demito covered in the
final but couldn’t overcome his rival’s near perfect .007 reaction time that
transformed a slower 7.798 into a winner over a quicker 7.744.
Norris
beat Charles Varnedoe of Jacksonville, Fla., Steve Brindle of Mandaville,
La., No. 1 qualifier Ronnie Procopio of Wake Forest and, finally, Robert
Hunnicutt of Youngsville to win for the first time at The Rock.
