NORRIS BREAKS
7.00 SECOND BARRIER AT LEE’S FALL BIKE NATIONALS
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Dave Norris became the first to break the
7.00 second barrier on a non-turbo motorcycle during qualifying
for the Lee's Fall Bike Nationals, but on Sunday the 2007 MiRock
champion had to surrender the Rockingham Dragway spotlight to
the husband-and-wife team of Ronnie and Robin Procopio..
Norris was clocked in 6.980 seconds during Schnitz Outlaw Pro
Street qualifying on Saturday, but the Bryans Road, Md., rider
couldn’t match those numbers Sunday in a final round loss to
Ronnie Procopio, the Wake Forest pro who sewed up second place
in MiRock points.
Meanwhile, although Matt Davies won the race, Robin Procopio claimed
the Honda-Suzuki of Sanford 5.60 Pro Comp title, joining Norris
and Orient Express Pro Sport Bike champ Vincent Demito of
Collegeville, Md., on the podium.
Norris breezed to his first series title even though he failed
to win a race this season at his home track – Maryland
International Raceway. He offset that shutout by reaching the
final round in all four of the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires
Series races contested at Rockingham.
Although he gave his sport bike title to Demito, 2007 champ
Anthony Navarro of Royersford, Pa., closed with a rush by
winning the season finale. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough to
overcome Demito, the only driver in either of the top two
classes to win this season at both Rockingham and MIR.
Other winners in the Lee’s Fall Bike Nationals were Damon
Williams of Richmond, Va., in the FBR Shop’s Quick 32, Ricky
Ward of Lockbourne, Ohio, in Nitrous Express Pro ET and Clay
Davies of Petersburg, Va., in Psychobike.com Street ET.

WIN SPECIAL AWARDS AT ROCK MIROCK EVENT
Damon Williams and
Ricky Lee Ward won special awards at the annual Lee’s
Performance Fall Bike Nationals for winning the most rounds of
competition in their respective categories.
Sponsored by
Nitrous Express, Williams won a $500 bonus for winning the most
rounds over the two days in FBR Shop Pro E.T class. Williams,
of Richmond, Va., won a total of 10 rounds of racing.
Ward, a 17-year-old
rider from Lockbourne, Ohio, won a rear tire for his Suzuki
courtesy of Richie’s Tires for winning 9 rounds of racing in the
dragbike.forum.com Street E.T. class.
Williams also won
the overall race in Pro E.T. on Sunday. Although Ward did not
win either day, he won more rounds during the two days of racing
of Street E.T. competition. |
